The Case for a Crossing on Commercial Road

by jontwigge on 21 July, 2016

After another request at the local area committee for a crossing on Commercial Road, long asked for by residents and this time backed up by evidence of Springfield Surgery visitors struggling to cross, a road survey has been carried out. The results back today are that the volume of traffic and the number of people crossing in the immediate vicinity does not justify taking the request further!

As many local residents know, at times it can be very difficult to cross here; not only is Commercial road itself busy but you have to contend with vehicles emerging from the local shops and side streets, never mind that the traffic is often backed up and queuing trying to get out onto the A6.  As well as the many visitors to the surgery, many elderly or with difficulty walking, there are lots of schoolchildren attempting to cross the road too.

All in all, we think that this is an unusual case that cannot simply be rejected with statistics and we continue to press for a crossing as soon as possible.
