Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempt rape in Hazel Grove.

At 10.30pm on Saturday 31 October 2015, a man approached an 18-year-old woman on Bosden Hall Road as she walked home from Hazel Grove train station. He attempted to rape her before he was disturbed by a member of the public.

The offender ran off, down Bosden Hall Road onto Chapel Street.

He is described as being white with fair coloured stubble, around 5ft 10in tall, in his late teens to early 20’s, of slim build, wore a dark coloured hooded top or jacket and possibly grey jeans.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Hughes said “This is a despicable act which has left a young woman completely distraught. We are doing everything we can to find the person responsible but we need the public’s help.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident and police are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry at the moment. However, I would ask anyone who may have witnessed what happened or saw the offender running away from the scene to call police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 9973 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
