Thank you for all of our support on Thursday – Jon Twigge was elected to Stockport Council
You can see his councillor page on the Stockport council website here
Jon was elected on 39% of the vote and has a 283 majority over his nearest rival.
The results in full are below:
Election Candidate | Party | Votes | % | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Jon Twigge | Liberal Democrats | 1777 | 39% | |
Sue Carroll | Conservatives | 1494 | 33% | |
Julie Anne Wharton | Labour | 634 | 14% | |
Tara O’Brien | UK Independence Party | 534 | 12% | |
Ken Pease | Green Party | 120 | 3% |
A fantastic result and thank you again for all of your support – from everyone who voted for Jon, to the people who work hard for us delivering leaflets, putting up posters and otherwise helping the campaign. This is how we manage to contact residents all year round and work with them to make Hazel Grove a better place. Thank you again.

I am pleased that Councillorp Twigge has been elected, though this comment really has nothing to do with his success.
I am simply using this opportunity (as I cannot find an email address for Councillor Twigge) to record a concern I have with respect to the traffic bollards that are installed between Hazelgrove and Highlane ( it is likely that there are others to which the following comment will also apply).
A significant number of these bollards are not illuminated and are also non-reflective. This is a serious omission and, in my opinion, has already caus one fatal accident, and also, a number of months ago, almost caused me to have a serious accident. I would be grateful if Councillor Twigge or one of his assistants would contact me for further information in this regard.
