Standing up for Hazel Grove All Year Round Learn more

Over recent years the Council and market traders have worked hard to improve and promote Stockport market and the historic Market Place. However, the number of people using the market on a regular basis is still low, and this is making trading conditions increasingly difficult for some market traders and other businesses in the area to the point where the future viability of the markets and this area is unsustainable.
The Council wants to support market traders but also make sure that the historic market place has a long and sustainable future, one that sees this historic asset being used throughout the week and in a way which draws more people to our town.
It is proposed that the Covered Market Hall becomes home to a new market offer. This would be focussed on good quality, locally sourced food and drink, to eat in and to take away.
The new offer will act as an anchor point for the wider Market Place and Underbanks area, and will encourage more people to visit the town, seven days a week. The Covered Market Hall symbolises the market’s heritage in Stockport and these proposals aim to safeguard and build upon this heritage.
Stockport Council want to listen to the views of residents, businesses and community groups about Stockport Market.
We would like to hear about your visits to the market and how you think Stockport Market could be developed for the future. You can have your say by completing the survey on the link below.
The closing date to complete the survey is Friday 1st April 2016.
