Work to improve and transform Stockport town centre and local transport networks is now well underway. This is an exciting time for Stockport but will be one of change too. The Council is committed to ensuring that all shops and businesses are kept regularly updated about the changes taking place and that, working in partnership, we do all we can to promote the fact that Stockport is still very much open for business.
From Monday (15th February) the remainder of the Great Egerton Street car park and the ramp to the Merseyway/Debenhams roof top car park will be closed as works on the Town Centre Access Plan and preparations for the Redrock Stockport development continue.
The Merseyway car park will remain open and can be accessed from St Petersgate and Great Underbank, as well as there being other car parks available locally. The Council has also instructed NCP to offer 2 hours free parking in Merseyway car park during the first week of the closure (15th February to 21st February 2016)
The changes are being widely communicated to shoppers, residents and businesses via road signs, press releases, Council website, social media, leaflets and banners. In addition Council officers will be visiting shops in the area to tell them more about the changes and to provide leaflets for customers that give information about town centre parking. An electronic copy of the leaflet is linked below.
In addition, a number of social media messages are planned over the coming days promoting the changes and that Stockport is open for business. The relevant accounts are listed below
