Smart Motorway is Coming to Stockport

by paulankers on 3 April, 2017

Smart Motorways are coming to Stockport. Councillors have received notification that the smart motorway programme is coming to Stockport, with the M60 junctions 24-27 and 1-4 to be delivered and work planned to start in 2020.

The aim will be to relieve of eliminate the gridlock Stockport suffers especially at Junctions 1 & 27.  We are promised that there will be public consultation events so we can all see what’s being proposed and have our say on the proposals.

The consultations will be important. We all know how complex that section of motorway is. There are narrow lanes, limited hard shoulder, the slip road joining the motorway in the fast lane at Bredbury, the existing 50mph limit round the Bredbury clockwise corner and more. It’s not a normal bit of motorway so we need to make sure any changes are going to make it better, not worse.

Hazel Grove campaigner Paul Ankers said, “I used to commute to Stretford and my wife still suffers through this stretch of motorway daily. It is vital that the M6o is improved. This will have a big impact for Stockport”.

I agree with the above remarks totally I hate the bredbury section of the motorway I avoid getting on there as I hate the fast lane

  2. Howard Davey says:

I tow a caravan and freqently enter the motorway system at the Bredbury junction, which makes me illegal, as a caravan cannot go in the outside lane. A better solution would be to complete the A555 from Simpsons bend through Offerton and complete the circular, altering the junction once.
